Cascadia’s visual art teacher, Ronnie (Veronica) Bush, was so excited for the new school year that she lost her voice before the first week was out! She rebounded quickly and would like to share this note with Cascadia families, as well as her most-needed donation items in the list below.

Welcome to another wonderful year at Cascadia Elementary! I look forward to meeting you all in person and feel privileged to teach your children art while witnessing them develop into powerful thinkers and makers.
My goals for the program are to teach students skills and techniques, as well as teach students about the ideas that drive artists’ creativity. There are eight dispositions in the art classroom: Develop Craft, Engage & Persist, Envision, Express, Observe, Reflect, Stretch & Explore, and Understand Art Community.
The students were hugely responsive to clay last year. I will be incorporating more clay, design challenges, and a creation station that students can choose from during free time. Our overall theme, chosen by students, will be nature. I am excited to continue to incorporate a broader view of the art world in order to be more inclusive and equitable to all genders, cultures, and abilities.
I can definitely use volunteers in the classroom, so please let me know if you would like to help out and in what capacity. (You can sign up to be a room parent here.) We will be having our annual Art Walk in May and at the beginning of the year the PTA will be asking if students would like to enter the Reflections art contest, the theme of which is Look Within. This is a great opportunity for our Art Stars!
The goal in the art studio is to have some serious fun! This is a GREAT YEAR!

- Egg crates
- Toilet paper rolls (we really need these!)
- Paper bowls
- Origami paper and other colorful paper
- Sewing supplies
- Aluminum foil
- Sharpies (thin & thick)
- Books relating to art
- Old Kleenex/tissue boxes and shoeboxes
- Googly eyes
- Graph paper
- Artwork and/or posters. If you have art to loan for the school year, please bring it in or contact Ronnie (vebush@seattleschools.org) to coordinate.
- If you have other materials you feel may be useful in the art classroom, please contact Ronnie in advance. Materials such as glass/mirrors and power tools are unsafe for use in the classroom.
Donations may be placed in the box outside the office door on the first floor.
