The PTA is excited for the 2020-2021 school year. To our new families, we are excited to have you in the community. For returning families, we look forward to reconnecting. As we gear up for a year that will be different from what we used to consider “normal”, we are trying to rethink how we come together and properly welcome our families and students back to school.
The PTA is inviting students to become Cascadia Buddies. This new initiative will match students in groups of 2-4. Matched buddies can meet virtually, or in person, in accordance with all applicable health guidelines. Our hope is that in addition to our virtual zoom grade-level playdates, Cascadia Buddies will allow students and their families to (re)connect until we have a better sense of what the upcoming year will look like.
The PTA will try to place buddy groups according to grade and neighborhood, please specify if there are other details about your child and family that you would like taken into account when students are matched. Our goal is simply to connect students and provide a warm welcome to everyone. All students are encouraged to participate; after the abrupt school closure and prolonged stay at home orders, we think a lot of students, especially those who were new last year, will be new this year, or weren’t able to really connect with a few friends prior to the closure, will benefit from a few buddies to ease their transition back to school. And, if your student is well connected, they are absolutely welcome to join and make more friends while serving as “host buddies” to newer students.
