The Cascadia PTA is looking for a Garden Educator position for the 2026/27 school year, with potential for continuing the role in future years.
This person will be contracted by the PTA, but collaborate closely with 4th and 5th grade teachers to coordinate and develop a Garden Program that aligns with their existing curriculums.
They will offer approximately 60 x 45 minute classes total to 4th and 5th grade classrooms, split between Fall and Spring.
The ideal candidate would have:
- Significant experience working with large groups of elementary aged children
- Strong organizational skills
- Enthusiasm for collaborating and communicating closely with staff and volunteers
- A passion for garden and environmental education
Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing and coordinating hands-on experience for students in the garden (planting, tending, harvesting, and eating/donating crops), including taking full lead responsibility for classroom management during garden program classes.
- Attending curricula planning sessions with fourth and fifth grade teachers to collaborate on developing a garden curriculum that aligns with existing classroom curricula.
- Possible areas of interest for curriculum development include environmental stewardship and sustainability, water usage and native plants.
- Providing written documentation of lesson plans to teachers and the PTA.
- Collaborating with fourth and fifth grade teachers around scheduling.
- Working with the Cascadia PTA’s Garden Coordinator to recruit and organize parent volunteers for classes and for maintaining the garden throughout the year.
- Developing summer watering instructions and instructions for seasonal garden maintenance.
- Assisting teachers who request extension of garden work.
Salary range is $50-60 per hour, depending on experience, not exceeding 120 hours for the school year.
