Position Summary
The Cascadia Elementary PTA is hiring for an iLab Educator!
The iLab is a creative Makerspace for students located onsite at Cascadia Elementary School. The iLab Educator will lead the development and delivery of STEM curriculum for students in Grades 2 through 5. They will inspire students to create, build, and explore STEM concepts throughout the school year. And this Educator will guide students through an iterative design process: imagine and collaborate, design and create, test and share, and reflect and revise.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop STEM curriculum and lesson plans consisting of 1 one-hour introductory session for all students and 10 lessons each for Grades 2/3 through Grades 4/5.
- Deliver the iLab curriculum to 2nd through 5th grade students and teachers.
- Coordinate with teachers to adapt curriculum, which may include lessons aligned to Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), as well as other subject areas.
- Recruit parent volunteers for iLab sessions in partnership with Cascadia teachers and the Cascadia PTA Volunteer Coordinator.
- Lead the 3D Print Club during teachers’ Flex Time.
- Manage the iLab to keep the space organized and available for the entire school.
- Track inventory in the iLab, procure items for the curricula, and communicate with the Cascadia community for in-kind donations.
- Provide basic training and guidance to Cascadia teachers so that the iLab is available to the entire school community at least one day a week.
- Attend Cascadia Open House and Welcome Back events to promote the iLab as a school resource.

Experience
- One or more years of experience teaching elementary-aged, neurodiverse, 2E children in a formal (e.g., school-based) or informal (e.g., community, museum, summer camp, etc.) educational setting.
- One or more years of experience managing a Makerspace or similar creative classroom or community space.
- Demonstrated understanding of pedagogical approaches for creative tinkering and STEM programming.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Must pass a Sterling National background check.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- A current Washington state teaching certification is helpful but not required.
Time Commitment
This is a contract position funded for approximately 320 hours spread over a 10-month period during the 2024/25 school year, reporting into the Cascadia PTA President. Each iLab session involves approximately 15 minutes to set-up and 15 minutes to clean-up, which will be counted towards the 320 hours.
The iLab Educator will teach four (4) classes for 1 – 2 days per week, in person, with a final schedule to be agreed upon jointly by the Cascadia Principal, teachers, and the iLab Educator. This iLab Educator is expected to be available during school hours and occasionally on weeknights as needed for special events.
Compensation
The total salary for the iLab Educator role is $24,000 over the 10-month contract period.
