Thank you to all the parents who submitted questions to the Advanced Learning Staff. You can view the slides they presented to us and a summary of the meeting, including their prepared and answers to your questions.
In short, Cascadia will be open to all current and incoming 1st graders for the next two years (2021-2022 and 2022-2023). Starting in the 2023-2024 school year, the plan is to keep 1st grade students in their neighborhood school (with plans for providing HC services in neighborhood schools – this is the MTSS plan they propose to institute district-wide). All students at Cascadia (and other cohort HC Elementary schools), will be able to stay at their school through 5th grade, but they will phase out new students in younger grades (full detail on the phase out plan, as well as proposed timeline for boundary changes for elementary school, are included in the slides). The broader HC Advocacy Community is thinking about how to best move forward with advocating for the needs of HiCap students, and the Cascadia PTA board will continue to seek opportunities to engage with the advanced learning team, school board members, etc., to communicate about district plans and ensure that the needs of HCC and 2e communities are heard.
