If you would like to volunteer to help, please use the SignUp Genius.

The Cascadia PTA is hosting the annual Science & Engineering Fair and a science-themed community meeting to help your kids explore their interests in science, engineering, and technology! Read on for details about the events and how to participate.

Science & Engineering Festival Activities

  • Science & Engineering Projects: Students can participate by working on a science or engineering design project at home. Working independently or in groups, students carry out projects at home from March–April and create a tri-fold display. Participation is optional and open to all Cascadia students, grades 1–5.
  • Special Community Meeting: Learn about the future of space flight! At the March 10th community meeting, Dr. Erika Wagner of Blue Origin will describe the future of space exploration and share her journey becoming a part of it.
  • Cascadia Science & Engineering Fair: Cascadia students and families are invited to our in-person Science & Engineering Fair at the school on April 25 at 6–7:30 PM. Students can register to display their projects and community organizations will host tables with activities. Please join our celebration of science!

Dates to Remember

  • March–April: Project Time! Students work on science/engineering projects at home and create a tri-fold display. Use the Project Planning Guides linked below!
  • March 10th: A special community meeting on space exploration for all Cascadia students.
  • By April 1st Deadline: Fill out the online registration form if you want to share a science or engineering project poster at the Science Fair.
  • Beginning April 2nd: Tri-fold poster board pickup for students who requested a board on the registration form.
  • April 25th Science & Engineering Fair: An in-person, evening event for students and families.

Information about Student Projects

  • All Cascadia students in grades 1–5 are invited to participate with a science or engineering project. Participation is optional (see 5th grade information below).
  • This is a non-judged fair. All participants will receive a prize for participation and are entered into a prize drawing.
  • Participating students will conduct their projects at home, create a display board, and present their project and board at the event on April 25th.
  • Display boards are available through the PTA by requesting one in the registration form. Limited funds for project supplies can be requested through school social worker Annie Cantrell.
  • For 5th Grade Families: You may have heard that your fifth grader has been assigned a science project this spring. This is a requirement that all fifth graders present a science project of their choosing at school. The presentation happens during the school day and is a graded assignment. It is a chance for fifth-grade students to see the work that their peers have spent months on. This day program occurs around the same time as the PTA’s evening Science and Engineering Fair, and all fifth graders are highly encouraged to enter their project. Participation in the PTA event is not required, but because students already have a great project, all they need do is register. If they want to participate in the PTA-sponsored Science & Engineering Fair they can register by April 1st using this registration survey.
