The Seattle Children’s Book Festival is a new 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works to promote children’s literacy in the greater Seattle area by connecting young readers with award-winning authors and books.

We are so excited to be putting on our FIRST EVER Seattle Children’s Book Festival on September 28, 2019 from 11am to 3pm at the Greenwood Elementary School campus located at 144 NW 80 Street in Seattle, WA.

Our organization works in two main ways:

FIRST, we are putting on a FREE festival for the public featuring award-winning children’s book authors and illustrators from all over the United States. You’ll have the opportunity to meet your favorite authors and illustrators, purchase signed copies of their books (book sales courtesy of local bookstores Phinney Books and Madison Books), participate in hands-on literacy activities and crafts, and hear several of our authors/illustrators present throughout the day. Please note that this event will be held both outdoors and indoors and is a rain-or-shine event!

SECOND, after the festival event, we’ll be getting outstanding new books into the Seattle Public Schools that need them the most. During the festival you’ll have a chance to purchase copies of any festival author/illustrators books for direct donation to Seattle Public Schools at a reduced price. In addition, after the event, Madison and Phinney Books will be giving 20% of autographed book sales to our organization. The directly donated books will go towards outfitting classroom libraries and the 20% of signed book sales proceeds (after recovering any outstanding festival expensese) will go towards putting on FREE book fairs at the Seattle Public Schools that serve the highest poverty populations. Access to new, relevant, award-winning books should be a right, not a privilege.

PARKING ON SITE

Free street parking is available on most of the streets surrounding the event.

Additionally, we have been able to secure permission to use two free parking lots for the event:

St. John’s (106 N 79th Street) in Seattle has offered the use of their parking lot (106 N. 79th Street, Seattle, WA 98013). There is no fee to park in their lot, but they do ask that all festival cars leave the lot after the close of the festival so their parishioners can park for 5pm mass. It is about a block from this parking lot to the event.

Washington Holdings is allow us free two hour parking in their lower lot located at 87th and Greenwood (former Safeway location which is now closed). Please note that there is a short walk (about 10 minutes) from this location to the event.

Paid parking options in the area:

There are several pay-to-park lots located on 85th street between Greenwood and Dayton. Please note that there is a short walk (about 10 minutes) from these parking lots to the event.
