Volunteers Wanted
Middle school is short, so it’s extra important for parents and guardians to get involved right away. We are currently seeking volunteers for the Eagle Staff PTSA board and other volunteer positions for next year and need 6th grade families to jump in. All our board positions are co- roles with returning officers, as are most of our volunteer positions (games tables, spirit wear, lost and found, event coordinators, music booster club, and more), so new volunteers will be well supported. Volunteering is a great way to get insight into the mysterious world of middle schoolers. Interested, or want more info? Email president@eaglestaffptsa.org

Upcoming Events
Talented Eagle Staff students will be performing Alice in Wonderland (a musical) on May 3-5. Open to the public. Stay tuned for details!

We are planning several “Ask a Student” panel discussions for new Eagle Staff students. One would be held during the day in April with alumni returning to talk to current 5th graders, and we’re hoping to have an evening public session in early May as well. Details TBD.

Eagle Staff’s marching band will be performing in Ballard’s Syttende Mai parade. Come and cheer on the Marching Ravens!

New-Student/Families Social
Incoming students and families are invited to attend a new student social on Tuesday, June 5, 5:30-7:30pm at Eagle Staff MS. Meet other students, learn about the school, connect with PTSA, find out about sports and music and other activities, and have some refreshments. See you there!

6th Grade Alumni Panel @ Cascadia
We will be doing a daytime 6th grade alumni panel discussion at Cascadia for future Eagle Staff 6th graders (a few former Cascadia kids will walk over and talk about adjusting to middle school and answer questions). Date TBD (late April).

“Ask a Student” Panel
We will host an evening “Ask a Student” panel in early May as well (that parents can attend). Date TBD (early May).

Call for 2018-2019 Volunteers
Can you volunteer? Several important staff-led school committees are getting started, and Eagle Staff MS needs parent/guardian – or student – reps on each of these:
* School Safety Committee/Subcommittees (kickoff meeting is Monday 3/26 at 4pm – looking for parent/guardian attendee(s) even if you’re not ready to commit yet)
* Building Leadership Team (kickoff meeting right after spring break)
* Hiring Committee (for next year’s staff – adding multiple FTEs; volunteers need to attend one hour SEA/SPS training on April 17 @ 4pm at JSCEE)
Please email president@eaglestaffptsa.org if you are interested (these are not PTSA committees, but the board is helping to collect potential volunteer names)

Music Program at JAMS Looking for New Members
Attending Jane Addams next year? The band, orchestra and choir are looking for new members! Even if you tried an instrument in elementary school and it didn’t work out, 6th grade is a great time to try again – classes meet every day for nearly an hour, so you never have to wait a week to ask your music teacher a question, and progress is faster. Even though we’re only in our fourth year, Jane Addams is already a nationally-recognized, award-winning music department that has 5 orchestras, 4 concert bands, 2 jazz bands, and 3 choirs.
We especially love having piano players who are interested in trying something new and playing or singing in an ensemble, and the Jazz Band needs piano players and guitarists! Looking to branch out and are curious about what instrument to play? Just for fun, try this quiz! Send your answers to deschaaf@seattleschools.org

Already play? Check out the Friends of Jane Addams Music website at fojam.org for updates about concerts and information on how to get involved! Signups for scheduling an audition with your teacher will be posted soon, too!

Orchestra (violin, viola, cello, bass): contact Ms. Schaefer ecschaefer@seattleschools.org
Choir: contact Mr. Gagiu acgagiu@seattleschools.org
Band: contact Deb deschaaf@seattleschools.org
